Denise Smith has nearly 40 years of accounting experience in public accounting and hospital finance, many of those as CFO. She received herDoctorate in Health Administration and Policy from the Medical University of South Carolina at Charleston (MUSC), an MBA from Brenau University, and a BS in Accounting from Gardner-Webb University. Denise is a Certified Public Accountant in North Carolina and Georgia, and currently teaches accounting as a full-time faculty member of Brenau University. Prior to joining Brenau, she taught at Gardner-Webb University for nine years. She also directs the Gainesville area VITA program leading volunteers (including students) in preparing income taxes for area low-income taxpayers, after starting and operating the same program at Gardner-Webb for nine years. Denise is a member of the ACBSP Bac/Grad Board of Commissioners, has been a mentor, and been on site visits for a number of ACBSP schools.
Denise and husband of 43 years, George, have two grown children – Heather and Edward, a fifteen-year old grandson, Skyler, and a two-year-old granddaughter, Patia. She lives in Gainesville, GA, and spends much of the summer in Wilmington, NC, with their son and grandson. She enjoys flower gardening, photography, walks on the beach and in the mountains, kayaking, playing with their Boston Terrier – Libby, and Pug – Izzy, and is very active at Lakewood Baptist Church. She lives to serve her Savior, Jesus Christ, and show His love to everyone in her spheres of influence. She believes that Love can conquer all differences.
