Forming a Campus Business Incubator for Student and Community Entrepreneurs

Best of Region Presentation from Region 4.

In 2014, the University of St. Francis opened a campus Business Incubator to support student and community entrepreneurs. The incubator is an innovative use of campus space and serves as a regional model for economic development in the region by fostering new business development; a secondary aim of the incubator provides students from St. Francis and neighboring junior colleges entrepreneurial education in a lab setting. Business startups collaborate and build their businesses in a co-working environment, and students have the ability to interact with these businesses in various ways. The University’s incubator program is based on a membership model. This session will share the operations model used to form and operate the incubator, an overview of the incubator members and programming, mentoring model, and the partnerships formed and developed. The presenters will outline the resources used to fund the model.
